The various forest preserves offer a huge trail of wilderness where people can enjoy camping, bird watching, and hiking. The Chaplin Park is a wonderful place for biking, swimming or even long romantic walks by the coastline. Presence of restrooms, vending machines, and outdoor showers make the experience all the more enjoyable.

Don't Forget the Beaches!

Burkes Beach is located in the central part and is a great choice for relaxing as it is generally less crowded than the other beaches. Amazing sunrise and sunset views can be experienced from here. People can also stroll on the guided walk and bike all through the area.

Folly Field Beach is located beside Starfish Road and offers yet another choice when it comes to beaches in the Hilton Head Island region. This public beach club offers water fountains, sand showers and public restrooms. Decks and other spots can be hired to spend the day with family or a group of friends.

Singleton Beach is an enclosed community and housing and lodging options can be availed from here. The stucco homes are ocean facing and built on patio fronts. Lots of newer homes and bungalows have been constructed off the coastline and villas and residential properties can be found here.

Bradley Beach Road is off of William Hilton Parkway and introduces you to this neighborhood of old and new.  There is a public beach parking at the end of the road convenient for day visitors.

Most of the public beaches offer fully-serviced restrooms on-site or nearby and other amenities like swimming, sports, 24-hour security and close-by shopping and dining destinations. Right in the middle is Chaplin Park which has soccer fields, baseball fields, and basketball courts. Tourists will appreciate all the effort that has been put in beautifying this area.

History

The Mid-Island area of HHI is a place with a rich history. Folly Field is a hidden gem, tucked away in this region, which offers residents and visitors to the island a glimpse of the island’s past. Folly Field can be partially credited for the economic explosion of Hilton Head, distinguishing the location as not only a resort destination, but as a great place to live.

Some of the earliest beach cottages were built here in 1953, in order to drive more ferry traffic from the mainland. This was done in the hopes of convincing the South Carolina government that a bridge should be built to HHI for visitors and island residents. The rich history of Folly Field can be seen in its eclectic homes, ranging from modern mansions to tiny beach cottages.

In more recent history, the Mid-Island Beaches neighborhoods, such as Singleton Beach, have been undergoing major changes. Singleton Beach has earned a spot as one of the island’s newest oceanfront vacation home developments. The colorful neighborhood features homes in a range of eclectic but modern styles, including Charlestonian architecture with some Italian inspiration.

Location
