History
HHI, where the Palmetto Hall gated community is located, has a history that goes back as far as Native American Occupation, and it goes through stages – from European occupation, a plantation era, the Civil War and Union occupation, reconstruction and isolation as recently as 1940, a mainland connection and modern era as recently as 1999, and in 2000, a census was taken of 33,862.

The community is located on Hilton Head Island, right next to the Intracoastal Waterway. Hilton Head Island is a shoe-shaped island that lies 20 miles by air northeast of Savannah, Georgia, and 90 miles south of Charleston, South Carolina.
