Homeowners that live in the Marshview neighborhood enjoy exquisite stainless steel appliances, granite counters, pools, courtyards, and gorgeous landscaping. Owners are also privy to serene marsh and creek views of the Calibogue Sound. This neighborhood was probably named for the tract of low wet land, treeless and periodically inundated, and characterized by a growth of grasses, hedges, cattails, rushes, orr reeds. Woody plants are present in the form of low-growing shrubs. Marches provide habitat for many types of plants and animals. The plants must be able to survive in wet mud with low oxygen levels. Many of these plants, therefore, have channels with the stem that allow air to move from the leaves into the rooting zone. Familiar examples include cattails, sedges, papyrus, and sawgrass. Aquatic animals, from fish to salamanders, are generally able to live with a low amount of oxygen in the water.
